Jerusalem Baptist was founded in 1902, since then we have been sharing the gospel in our local community. JBC is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, and Northshore Baptist association.
JBC is a community of believers bound together by Faith, Hope and Love. We believe the most important thing in life is a relationship with Jesus Christ. All people, no matter how “good” we try to be, have sinned against God (Romans 3:23). Since God is so Perfect and Holy the payment for our sin is Death/Hell; however, God gave us the gift of eternal life through Jesus (Romans 6:23).
It’s a very simple process, you need to pray asking Jesus to become Lord of your life and ask him to forgive you of your sins. (Romans 10:9) says if you Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead you will be saved. (1 John 1:9) If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness
God’s inspired Word in 66 books and the source of our world view (2 Timothy 3:16)
A person cannot earn or work their way into heaven (Ephesians 2:8) “It is by grace you have been saved not by works”. If a person never missed church, donated millions of dollars to charities, and volunteered all of their spare time to help the less fortunate, but they didn’t have Jesus as their savior then they would not go to Heaven and unfortunately Hell is the alternative. Goods deeds are important after you’ve made Jesus Lord of your life, but they are not a substitute for Jesus.
We believe it is very important to be Baptized after you’ve asked Jesus for forgiveness and confessed him as your Lord. Jesus himself was Baptized so it’s important to follow in his steps after you’ve accepted him. Baptism is a symbolic gesture to show others your old self is gone, and the new Christian has come. Remember Baptism waters are not magic and getting dunked in water at church does not guarantee you are going to heaven. Similar to Good deeds, Baptism is not a substitute for a relationship with Jesus. It is something you do after you’ve accepted Jesus.
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God sharing the same nature and attributes (Genesis 1:26, Matthew 3:16-17. Matthew 28:19)
The 2 main ordinances at JBC are Believers Baptism after someone accepts Christ and Communion/ Lord’s Supper. (Luke 22:19) Jesus said "do this in remembrance of me". JBC partakes in the Lord’s supper several times per year.
